Ford Foundation

Ms. Lopez was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Ford Foundation in 2014, marking the first time an artist was elected to serve on its board.  The Ford Foundation has granted nearly $1 billion to arts organizations in the United States since the nonprofit model took off in the 1950s. President Darren Walker recognized the unique perspective Ms. Lopez could bring to those ongoing efforts as a celebrated arts leader and Ford Foundation scholarship recipient at age eleven.

Ms. Lopez serves on the Nominating and Governance Committee, the Selection Committee for President Walker’s Successor, and the Justice & Equality Program Committee, where she reviews organizational practices and provides oversight in relation to grant-making, investments, and social initiatives. Her advocacy for arts education aligns with foundational priorities, supporting equitable access, program development, and public engagement to advance integrated arts learning, for all communities.
